The "Tools" menu, under the "Options" option will produce the dialog box shown above.

By default, the software is set to use your local sightings database - the one resident on your computer.  To switch this so that you can explore everyone's sightings, choose the second option.  The regional database is located on a computer that is connected to the internet.  Since it pulls sightings over the internet (which applies quite a load!) a broadband (DSL or Cable) internet connection is required.

The "Product" field lets you switch between the bird log product and the dragonfly log.

The "Use latin names..." check box lets you display the scientific names in the sightings explorer, rather than the common name.

The "Use UTM for Data Entry" field lets you switch from latitude/longitude data entry in the bird log to the UTM coordinate system.

The "Suppress Tooltips" box turns off popup tips in the sightings log.  These popup tips provide useful information (such as the band code and taxonomic info for sightings) but can be distracting.

The "Sort Bird List by Taxonomic Order (ish)" button lets you display the bird common names grouped by their taxonomy, rather than alphabetically.  The "ish" part means that the taxonomic GROUP is still alphabetical, even though the bird names are not.
