This area of the map contains the map display with the sightings plot overlaid upon it.  As can be seen from the above screen snap, the map contains complete street detail for the entire province of Ontario.

The screen snapshot above is displaying the sightings plot.  Each of the red crosshair is an outing that has been added to log a bird sighting.  An "outing" is defined as a location where one or more birds was seen.

Clicking one of the sightings crosshairs will expand out the list for that particular location (Figure 2).

Figure 2

As can be seen, the birds in the list at the right were seen at the location where the "1" is on the map - approximately Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue in Guelph.  The "1" beside the crosshairs matches up with the label beside the bird list.  This shows a list of the the birds that were seen at this location, the number of outings they were seen on, and a graph of the months they were seen.  A blue background behind the month letter means the bird was seen during that month.

The "Context Menu"

Right-clicking on a location on the map will bring up the "Context Menu".  This is a standard Windows term for a pop-up menu.  The pop-up menu is shown in Figure 1.

To add a sighting at the location you right-clicked, choose the "Add Sighting/Outing" option.  This is the same as clicking the "Add Sighting" button in the toolwindow and clicking a location on the map.

To add a new standard location at the location you right-clicked, choose the "Add a Location" option.  The standard locations dialog will then be shown to enter the additional information required.

To set the default map centre point and zoom scale, select the "Set Map Centre Point Default".  This centre and zoom level will be kept permanently and the map will be set to this when it is loaded.
