Use the Filter drop-down to filter the sightings by a particular bird.  Either all the sightings can be displayed, or just those for one particular bird species (American Robin, for example).

Use the Month drop-down to filter the sightings by one particular month, or to show all months.

When the sightings plot is active (see below for an explanation of data layer plot types), the Consolidate drop-down allows close-by sightings to be combined into one averaged location.  When the frequency plot is active, this drop-down controls the size of the count square.   It has no effect on the locations plot.

The Dock Sightings push-button controls where the bird list will appear.  When "pushed", the sightings will be displayed on the right-hand side of the map.  When "unpushed", the sighting will be displayed right beside the cross-hair.

The Plot Type drop-down menu will control which data layer is displayed on the map.

The Sightings Plot displays the bird sightings for a location
The Frequency Plot divides the map into squares, and counts the number of birds that occurred in each square.  It's roughly analgous to the frequency map one might find in a reference book, but its made from *your* sightings.
The Location Plot displays all your frequent locations on the map.
The Natural Areas Plot displays the Natural Heritage Information centre's database of natural areas for Ontario.
No Plot shows just the map - there is no data layer displayed, just the map.
